The Soul of Clay - Reviving India's Earthen Heritage
India has always been celebrated for its traditions, and among them, the art of cooking with earthenware holds a special place. Once an everyday practice, it gradually faded with modernization, replaced by stainless steel, bone china and melamine. Today, earthen pots are rare treasures, valued not just for their heritage but for their remarkable natural benefits.
Earthenware is more than just cookware; it’s nature’s gift to healthy living. Cooking in clay enriches food with essential minerals like calcium, phosphorus, iron and magnesium. Its porous texture enhances flavor while naturally cooling water and preserving the authentic taste of every meal.
At The Westside Potter, we are dedicated to reviving this timeless wisdom in a modern world. Our handcrafted clay products reconnect you with India’s rich cultural roots, promoting a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle while keeping alive the traditions that once defined our way of life.

Founder Story
The Potter's Hands - The Story of Our Founder
For Akshay Tank, founder of The Westside Potter, the journey didn’t begin in a boardroom, it began with his hands in clay. Akshay comes from a family of Prajapati Kumbhar Samaj, traditional potters who have worked with clay for generations. His love for pottery began with a memory of the delicious taste of dal cooked in his grandmother’s earthen handi. As he grew up, he noticed how the world was filling up with plastic and waste, people were forgetting simple natural ways of living. He felt something needed to change.
Akshay wanted to take this tradition further. He opened The Westside Potter in Malad Mumbai, not just to sell pots, but to create a place where people can reconnect with the earth. Here, people can see, learn and experience the beauty of pottery. Now through digital platforms, he is bringing his family’s pottery to more people across India and the world. His dream is simple: to keep this ancient craft alive and help people choose natural, eco-friendly products again. With The Westside Potter, Akshay invites everyone to touch the soil, shape something with their own hands and bring a little bit of nature back into their lives.
